      In pursuance of the Haryana Act No.7, an independent University of Veterinary and Animal Sciences was established on 1.12.2010 which was notified on 7th April, 2010. The new University has been named in the cherished memory of Lala Lajpat Rai, a great patriot, the foremost freedom fighter, an ardent social reformer and a versatile writer.  The College of Veterinary Sciences and the College of Animal Sciences which were earlier the constituent colleges of Chaudhary Charan Singh Haryana Agricultural University, Hisar have been placed in this new University. The College of Animal Science has been merged with College of Veterinary Sciences having a glorious history since its shifting from Lahore (Pakistan) to Hisar. It is backed by an enviable track record of academic excellence, cutting edge research and rendering quality services to the livestock of the state in particular and nation in general. Animal rearing is the life line of “Haryanvi” culture since time immemorial. Haryana holds a significant position in the dairy map of India, renowned for Murrah buffalo, often referred to as the "Black Gold" of India, and cattle breeds such as Hariana and Sahiwal. The LUVAS provides quality education leading to B.V.Sc. & A.H. and postgraduate degreeof MVSc and Ph.D. in all disciplines of Veterinary Science as well as UG and PG in the College of Dairy Science and Technology . A spacious Teaching Veterinary Clinical Complex provides round the clock services for treatment and care of sick animals including referral services. The ambulatory clinic, central laboratory, animal and poultry research farms and a robust Disease Free Small Animal House are unique facilities with the University. The University also runs a two year Veterinary Livestock Development Diploma course.  There are seven disease investigation laboratories which provide expert services of diagnosis to farmers.   The Regional Centre of Teaching Veterinary Clinical Complex at Uchani (Karnal) is a referral clinical service to North and Eastern region of the State. The University will have shortly a new campus.  An extensive network of alumni occupying important positions throughout the world is a source of inspiration, enthusiasm and commitment to hard work for the faculty and students. The university under the able leadership of Prof.(Dr.) Vinod Kumar Verma, Hon’ble Vice-Chancellor is accelerating its infrastructure and development and standard of education at a faster rate.
