In 2009, with the blessings of the then Hon’ble Chief Minister Shri Narendra Modi, a bill was introduced in the State Legislative Assembly to establish a new University in Veterinary, Dairy, Fisheries and Allied Sciences which was fondly named after the ancient holy cow, Kamdhenu, a cow which fulfills all wishes. The Gujarat Legislative Assembly passed the bill to establish and incorporate the Kamdhenu University Act, 2009 (Gujarat Act No 9 of 2009). The Act was assented by Hon'ble Governorshri of Gujarat on July 07, 2009.
Kamdhenu University (KU) has been established and incorporated by the Government of Gujarat as a teaching and affiliating University for the development of Veterinary and Animal Sciences including Dairy, Fisheries and Allied Sciences and for furthering the advancement of learning, conducting need based research and dissemination of findings of research and other technical information (lab to land) in Livestock and Fisheries sectors in the State of Gujarat. The University offers Postgraduate and Graduate Courses in Veterinary, Dairy and Fisheries faculties. A three-year Diploma in Animal Husbandry is also offered. Presently, Kamdhenu University has four each of Veterinary and Dairy and two Fisheries Colleges along with related Research Stations and Farms.
